In response to last year’s damaging floods and with the help of four of its favourite celebrities, Cornish brand Seasalt is launching a striking limited edition collection of bags by Dame Judi Dench, Alex Polizzi, Savannah Miller and Monty Halls, with proceeds from sales going to the incredible Fishermen’s Mission. We used to be fish merchants. A very different life to the farming world we are now in as far as time scales go. Our yearly harvest has replaced a daily auction but both are so very dependent on the weather. We have replaced lying awake at night listening to the wind and the storms and worrying if the boats will be in with fish for the market with lying awake at night wondering what damage the wind will do to the vines or if trees will be blown down and cause damage on the farm. The last 18 months have seen significant damage to fencing vines and our tractor shed is now half the size it originally was due to a very large tree! Still, all these things are insignificant in relation to the danger fishermen put themselves in to catch fish for our fridges each time they swing out through the gaps of Newlyn Harbour. The Fishermen’s mission is the only charity to provide emergency support along with practical financial, spiritual and emotional care to fishermen and their families. They are a huge part of the community here in West Cornwall and other places where fishing is the main focus and industry. Seasalt clothing has supported the Fishermen’s Mission for the last 2 years and we just love the idea they had to bring together Celebrities Judi Dench, Alex Polizzi, Savannah Miller and Monty Halls to design Sea salt Jute bags with £1 from each bag going to the Fishermen’s Mission. The launch of the new bags took place on Wednesday 28th January at Wright Bros in Soho and Polgoon was pleased to support them by sending some Elderflower Presse and some sparkling Aval to go with the Wright brothers, wonderful Oysters. As Fish Merchants we used to supply Hotel Tresanton, owned by Alex Polizzis Mother, with fish on a daily basis and have attended events with the wright Brothers at Falmouth Maritime Museum where we have matched our Sparkling Aval with their wonderful Oysters. It’s a privilege to be able to collaborate again with people raising money for such a worthy cause. I will definitely be nipping down to our local Seasalt in Penzance and buying one of each design. Make sure you do as well speak soon Kim
