On the 18th July Penzance prepared for an historic day when we were visited by the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall. Two of sites in the town have recently undergone major regeneration, The Jubilee Pool and St Johns Hall. The famous art deco lido was severely damage during the winter of 2014 and after the 2.9 million restorations Prince Charles officially opened the pool the morning of the 18th while Camilla Duchess of Cornwall took a tour around St Johns Hall.
The Duke and Duchess continued their busy day with a tour of the Penzance Farmers Market where they will meet local producers and representatives of local businesses and charities including Fishing for Litter, Seafood Cornwall Training, and Farm Cornwall.
One of the most important parts of the day was their tour of the Minack Theatre where they met with local food & drink business including our very own Kim Coulson the proprietor here at Polgoon.
Polgoon presented Camilla Duchess of Cornwall with her very own vine and spent a beautifully sunny afternoon drinking Polgoon Elderflower Pressé. The Duchess of Cornwall is also the president of the United Kingdom Vineyards Association and a great ambassador for the English Wine Industry so was a great honor for us that she was drinking Polgoon.
A wonderful day all round for Penzance and the surrounding area, it’s great that all the hard work being done locally is celebrated in such a prestigious way.
