Eight years ago Polgoon and River Cottage formed a relationship that resulted in the creation of a delicious Sparkling Elderflower Wine.
Created at Polgoon here in Penzance, Cornwall, the River Cottage Sparkling Elderflower Wine is made using the traditional artisan methods of sparkling wine production. After a first in-tank fermentation, this wonderful, unique wine is bottled and laid down for up to a year. During this time a secondary fermentation takes place that produces a premium quality, sparkling wine with a mousse of tiny bubbles. This sparkling wine is then infused with elderflowers grown on the farm at Polgoon and in neighbouring Cornish farms resulting in a refined, floral sparkling wine that’s perfect with fish dishes or seafood – perhaps a lemon sole or even fish and chips! It’s also delicious with puddings such as panna cotta or apple crumble. The Cider is made from selected English apples and pressed and fermented to produce a light, crisp cider with a fruity , fresh taste – perfect with charcuterie and ideal at a barbecue!
This year the labels have been redesigned to feature an elegant white elderflower motif entwined with gold foil detailing to create a consistent and premium look across all products.
Both the Elderflower Sparkling Wine and the Elderflower Cider are sold at River Cottage Canteens and delis across the UK.
