The harvest of 2018 is set to be the best Polgoon has ever had! The fabulous, long, dry summer has made the quality of fruit exceptional and we’ve seen at least 50% more grapes on the vines, with much higher natural sugars in all fruit – because sugar comes from sunshine!  This has obviously made our winemaker very happy as ‘it’s all about the fruit‘ here at Polgoon.

We’ve had to buy two new 2.5 thousand litre wine tanks to accommodate all the extra fruit.  This means an extra 5,000 litres of juice to make an additional 10,000 bottles of wine, taking Polgoon from 30,000 to 40,000 bottles this year.

We’re very excited that the first Sauvingnon Blanc in Cornwall will be produced from our 2018 crop.  It will be a single variety, single estate wine and so far it looks as if this will be a very special wine –  watch this space.

Wine tourism is really taking off in Cornwall.  Between April and August this year Polgoon had 2,000 visitors on a vineyard tour and wine tasting, more than ever before, showing a real thirst for knowledge and interest in English wine.  This trend has also meant visitors to Cornwall are actively seeking out local wines in bars and restaurants, increasing demand for our wines across the county and beyond…

So, let’s raise a glass to  the summer of 2018 – cheers everyone!
