“We’re delighted that our Mount’s Bay Scrumpy has been recognised by CAMRA KERNOW as this year’s Supreme Champion of Cornwall.  Recognition from this esteemed group is a huge accolade for our scrumpy and we’re extremely proud to receive this award.”  John Coulson, owner and cider-maker, Polgoon

The popularity of real cider is rising as more people discover how deliciously mellow and aromatic the flavours of naturally-produced cider can be. CAMRA campaigns to raise it’s profile even further by holding festivals and competitions championing real cider producers across the UK.  A glass of real cider represents generations of production dating back hundreds of years. The basic premise for production has remained the same in all that time – simply pick and press the fruit, allow to ferment, and enjoy.

With a higher alcohol percentage than Polgoon’s Original Cider, the 7% Scrumpy Cider is a little more rugged and is still, not sparkling, in keeping with traditional heritage. Made with selected, pressed, West Country apples, Mount’s Bay Scrumpy is a truly scrumptious drink.

“In total, 87 ciders were judged by a panel of 40 judges and Mount’s Bay Scrumpy came out on top.  It’s a still, slightly dry cider that’s not as harsh as some of the scrumpy we tasted.  It’s delicious, proper Cornish scrumpy made in the traditional way.”  Bob Bunce, Chairman, Cornwall CAMRA

CAMRA’s core aims are to promote real ale, real cider and perry in UK pubs, as well as acting as the consumer’s champion in relation to the UK and European beer and drinks industry. With over 187,000 members around the world, CAMRA can be considered one of the most successful consumer campaigns ever.  As Champion of Cider Cornwall, the Polgoon Scrumpy will now go on to be judged at the CAMRA National Finals in Reading next May.
