We get asked to support a lot of things and of course can’t say yes to everything but when we had a visit from Stephane Delourme (From Brittany and Head chef at Rick Steins) and Peter McGahan (from Ireland and owner of Worldwide Financial Planning) who completing a Celtic 7 marathon challenge, we were happy to do our little bit. After all donating a few bottles of our wonderful sparkling Raspberry Aval as a welcome drink was an easy thing to do in comparison to running 7 marathons. There is going to be a final farewell dinner at the Eden Project on the 15th November for details see below.
As well as the incredible feat of running marathons in 7 locations Belfast May 5th; Finsterre in Bretagne 29th June; Tenby in Wales 13th July; Isle of man 10th August; Galicia in Spain (up a mountain) 14th September; Loch ness Scotland 28th September; and finishing in Cornwall at the Eden project on October 19th, they are working hard throughout this time to raise money for 3 amazing charities. Ellies Havan, Action for Children and the Invictus Trust which is also our chosen charity here at Polgoon. These incredible charities make a huge difference in their chosen areas and also give 100% or very close to 100% of money raised to their charitable activities.
In addition to the fundraising and marathon running Peter & Stephane will work closely with the charities involving the children and young adults in everything they can from singing at the event, to designing logos, cooking, and waiting on at the dinner events.
The Invictus Trust works to support Teenage Mental Health. They are in the process of visiting every Cornish Secondary School to talk about mental health and campaigning for a Young Peoples mental Health Unit in Cornwall. Currently there are no beds for under 18s or suitable provision for young adults. Invictus was set up in memory of Ben son of the founders who took his own life when just 18 whilst in an adult mental health unit in Cornwall.
Ellies Haven is a charity that plans to offer relief to children suffering long term and life limiting illnesses. They offer holidays so that children and their families can spend quality time together, away from their normal surroundings and relax and share experiences with other families in similar situations. Ellie’s haven require around £259,000 to adapt the property for complex /severely disable children. Ellies Haven, once up and running would cost £60,000 per year to make it work sustainably.
